Claris has done a great job to upgraden FileMaker with a few major game changers. This upgrade is obviously and more than ever before, a part of a strategy. A vision on where the market before bespoke software development is heading. We are on our way to become more modulair and integrate better than ever with modern technologies like Machine Learning, AI, API's etc. A full list of changes can be found at the Claris website. Meanwhile let us point you to a few of our favourite and exciting new features...
Over the years Claris has done a great job to offer HTML5 representations of FileMaker layouts in browsers through a server 'connection' called WebDirect. Whatever you create on your FileMaker layouts is ported straight to the web, with some small shortcomings.
One of the caveats has been the lack of card window support. But now, as of FileMaker 19, the card window support is here. When a card window is open, the status toolbar and menu bar in the parent window is not active and cannot be shown or hidden. The parent window will not be updated until the card is closed.
Together with the WebDirect Hack we discuss in the next news item, this updates brings a way better user experience to WebDirect. Try the effect of Card Window yourself in our online playground...
You can now load a Core ML (Machine Learning) model and prepare it for use using the new Configure Machine Learning Model script step. You can create your own model you have trained yourself, or find one for free online.
You can also purchase a Core ML model. Just drop it into a container, give a model name, pass parameters, and return the result. We expect a lot of innovation in customer applications in image recognition and moreTo learn more about this exciting feature, you can read more here
Note: On Windows, the Web Viewer uses Internet Explorer 11 which has limitations and may require additional complexity in order to support IE 11. Claris plans to move to Edge down the road.
You can now scan or stop scanning Near Field Communication (NFC) tags using FileMaker Go. Learn how NFC Tag Reading works in FileMaker Go as Devon Mason walks you through this exciting new feature.
The users of FileMaker Go 19 will be able to read the data in these tags, just like QR codes, by simply holding the phone within about an inch of the object. To start or stop scanning for NFC tags use the Configure NFC Reading script step.
In Claris’s ongoing effort to simplify the complex and have anyone be able to create problem-solving apps, Add-ons will be coming to the platform soon, allowing for the easy enhancement of your apps by adding things like kanban boards, photo galleries and more with just a click and quick configuration.
And you can save a FileMaker file as an add-on, which will undoubtedly lead to a plethora of quick, easy, and useful add-ons being released by the community.Check out This Tutorial by DBservices for creating your own Add-on
The new Claris Marketplace launched in November 2019, replacing Made for FileMaker (MFF). FileMaker 19 now displays a link to the Marketplace in the Create screen.
